WHO WE ARE
Known for “cohesive and heartfelt performances” and “exquisite selections in programming,” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) Fermata Chamber Soloists is a collective of young classical artists presenting re-imagined concerts in the Boston area and beyond.
Founded in 2018, FCS refocuses classical music on the live concert experience, presenting a diverse repertoire featuring multi-format ensemble works from quartets to concertos, showcasing our exceptional artists as both soloists and chamber musicians.
By presenting community-oriented events that redefine what classical music can be, while retaining the highest level of artistry, our concerts are intense and informal.
Dear Friends,
It brings me great pleasure to introduce Fermata Chamber Soloists’ sixth season. At FCS, we embrace the soloistic nature within each of our core artists, endeavoring to bring our players into the spotlight with chamber music and concerti alike. Our season spans 300 years of music, with composers ranging from Antonio Vivaldi to Andrew Norman, to Phillip Glass.
Our opening night, taking place October 13, will feature the two great Czech composers, Smetana, and Dvorak. Smetana's first quartet, From my Life, is an iconic work, well known, but rarely heard in its entirety. Though Dvorak's American quartet, perhaps the most famous string quartet ever written, overshadows the American quintet, this later work is no less the showstopper.
Looking ahead to December 1, one of our long-time violinists, Sophia Szokolay, will present Jean Sibelius’ suite for violin and strings, alongside a selection from Phillip Glass’ second violin concerto. On March 29, we welcome pianist Stephen Joven Lee for his Fermata debut, performing duos for violin and piano, as well as Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet. On April 19, we conclude our season with a special night of concerto works highlighting our core artists, alongside the spectacular soloists, David Bowlin and Tony Cho, performing the little-known, virtuosic concerto for Piano, Violin and Strings by Felix Mendelssohn. This concert is surely not to be missed, and will be our most spectacular event yet.
